Presentation: Hypnosis for Treatment of Chronic Pain
Chronic pain represents a significant public health challenge, affecting up to 20% of the European population. Beyond its profound impact on individual; limiting daily functioning, reducing quality of life, and contributing to psychological distress, chronic pain also represents high socioeconomic costs for society through elevated healthcare utilization, high medication consumption, and substantial productivity loss. Effective management of chronic pain remains difficult, and pharmacological treatment continues to dominate clinical practice, but many patients experience limited pain relief or problematic side effects of the pharmacological treatment
Over the past decades, a growing body of clinical and neuroscientific research has demonstrated that hypnosis can produce reliable and clinically meaningful reductions in pain intensity, pain-related distress, and functional impairment across a variety of chronic pain conditions. Functional neuroimaging and psychophysiological studies have begun to clarify the underlying mechanisms of hypnotic analgesia. Despite this evidence, hypnosis remains underutilized in the healthcare system
This presentation aims to provide a short overview of the neurobiological foundations of hypnotic pain relief and the evidence on use of clinical hypnosis for chronic pain. A few cases from clinical practice will illustrate how different hypnotic technique, such as visualization of sensory modulation, hypnotic analgesia, ego-strengthening, and self-hypnosis training can be useful to meet the individual patient needs.
Workshop: Hypnosis for Pain Relief – Learn Tools That Make a Difference
In this workshop with focus on the clinical practice you will learn different hypnosis methods to help your patients cope with pain. The hands-on workshop gives you practical hypnosis methods that are easy to learn, safe to use, and effective across a wide range of situation, from dental procedures and acute painful procedures to chronic pain conditions.
You will experience live demonstrations, including the popular glove analgesia technique, and learn how to guide patients to create their own hypnotic pain control. Through interactive exercises, you’ll discover how to strengthen patient resources, and use of metaphor to externalize pain-related experiences, the value of post hypnotic suggestions. Whether you are new to hypnosis or seeking to expand your therapeutic toolbox, this workshop will equip you with skills you can use in your daily clinical practice.
